Monthly public Commission meetings, other changes to be implemented following Governor's veto of HF 639

(Des Moines) – In light of Governor Kim Reynolds’ decision on Wednesday to veto House File 639, an act relating to infrastructure projects, the Iowa Utilities Commission acknowledges the Governor’s guidance and will begin implementing several process improvements immediately.

Although HF 639 was vetoed, the IUC recognizes the importance of the transparency measures it proposed. The Commission closely followed the bill’s progression through both the Iowa House and Senate and has listened to the discussions and public input surrounding it.

In her veto statement, Governor Reynolds emphasized the need for increased Commissioner engagement, specifically requesting that all Commissioners be present during live testimony and at least one Commissioner attend every informational meeting.

The IUC fully supports these transparency goals and will begin implementing these practices.

As part of its commitment to public engagement, the IUC is also announcing the return of monthly public Commission meetings in August. These meetings are intended to provide stakeholders and the public with greater visibility into IUC processes and decision-making.

The IUC remains dedicated to fair, transparent, and accountable governance of Iowa’s energy and utility infrastructure.
